Woodpecker Class is made from 11 pupils in Years 1, 2 and 3. Our class teacher is Emma Crockett, who is supported by three Teaching Assistants (TA’s): Charlotte Greenway, Beki Hollingdale and Hannah Mackrell. We are part of the Primary Hub within the school community.
This term, our topic is ‘Yum, Yum’ and our learning will be based around a series of stories, including: ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and ‘The Gingerbread Man’. This topic enables us to find out about and explore different types of food, including those from around the world. We will also be exploring animal food chain and the food that they eat.
In Woodpeckers, we are encouraged to develop our independence and social skills during snack, dinner and playtimes. Learning opportunities occur through Independent Learning sessions as well as focused, small group, tasks and 1:1 time. We access Phonics 3 times a week and target time twice a week. At the moment, we also enjoy regular sensory story sessions.
This half term, Woodpecker class are very active! We have Rebound Therapy (trampolining) on Tuesday mornings, swimming, in our hydro pool, on Tuesday afternoons and P.E. on Fridays. We explore the wider world through topic related trips every Thursday morning however, after half term this will change to Forest School (am) and ‘Grow It, Cook It’ (pm).
