Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are in Robin class. Children start school on a reduced timetable and the length of their day gradually increases as the children become more settled. Each child will have an individual timetable for starting school so that we can meet their personal needs.
The class teacher for Robins is Sophie Milner-Smith and the teaching assistants are Toni Sharpe, Charlotte Greenway, Mollie Beeston, Bradley Fletcher and Izzy Seyfi. The children call the staff by their first names.
In Early Years, children are encouraged to develop their skills, ideas and independence in different areas of learning which are Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematical Development; Understanding the World and Expressive Art and Design. The majority of learning is through play and we use the children’s interests to help them develop their understanding of new ideas.
The topics for Robin class changes each half term. Our topic for the first autumn half term is Look at Me. In this topic we will be finding out about our new school, our new friends and our bodies. After October half term our topic will be What’s in the Box.
Robins have Forest School and Grow it, Cook it, sessions every Thursday, it can often get muddy so we ask parents and carers to send in clothes which can get dirty and wellies. PE is on Friday and children have swimming in small groups on either a Wednesday or Friday. Please contact the class if you would like more information about your child’s swimming sessions.
