31st December 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
I do hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and holiday period despite our current circumstances.
As you will all be aware West Sussex moved into tier 4 on Boxing Day.
Tier 4 guidance
Please follow the full guidance which can be found using this link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home
Key information for us is:
Clinically extremely vulnerable pupils and staff should stay at home. In our school this is a very small group of pupils as well as some staff. If your child is in this group please keep them at home and we will telephone you as soon as we can next week to talk through the situation with you.
Please continue to use this email address firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know if your son or daughter has tested positive for the coronavirus.
At 7 pm last night the DfE issued new guidance to schools in regards to opening next week. However, the guidance for special schools was not clear. I have contacted the local authority, Public Health England and the Department of Education today in order to seek clarification and none has been able to provide this as yet. I understand there may be more information for special schools later today.
I will get back to you as soon as I have clear information on the start of next week. My current reading of the guidance is that as a primary special school we will be open as usual and I am aware that this will pose anxiety to some of you and likewise to some staff. We will do everything in our power to keep everyone safe and keep disruption to a minimum. Thank you for your patience and support as we wait for further clarity. I appreciate that you will need information as soon as possible particularly if we are unable to open as planned and I will let you know as soon as I get confirmation on the expectations and guidance for us.
With warmest wishes for the New Year!
