26th January 2023
Dear Parents/Carers
As you will be aware the NEU (National Education Union) has voted to strike. The NEU is the largest professional association for teachers. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government and not because of any issues at our school. Please see the attached information leaflet which we have been provided with where you can find more details about this.
Members of the NEU within the Palatine staff have taken the decision to uphold the call to strike and this has a significant impact on our ability to run school safely on that day. After considerable thought, risk assessment and careful discussion with the Chair of Governors, I am informing you that Palatine Primary School will be closed on Wednesday 1st February 2023.
This decision has not been taken lightly. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils and it is considered that this is not possible on that day.
Please be aware that there may also be potential disruption on:
- Thursday 2nd March 2023
- Wednesday 15th March 2023
- Thursday 16th March 2023
At this point we are unable to confirm the arrangements for the subsequent strike dates as NEU members’ decision to strike this time doesn’t necessarily mean they will strike on the days listed above. I will keep you posted as I have the information provided to me.
I understand that this situation may be frustrating and I am working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation so that I can give you as much notice as possible of strike action and keep you up to date with any changes.
Kindest regards
Catriona Goldsmith
