Caterpillar class is an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) class. The class teacher for Caterpillars is Toni Sharpe who is supported by 4 teaching assistants; Gemma, Harriet, Kim and Pauline.
In Early Years, children are encouraged to develop their skills, ideas and independence in different areas of learning which are Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematical Development; Understanding the World and Expressive Art and Design. The majority of learning is through play and we use the children’s interests to help them develop their understanding of new ideas.
The topics for Caterpillar class change each term. Our current topic is called “Sing me a song”. This term children are exploring a range of activities relating to the topic and voting for which one they would like to learn more about. So far we have learnt about Fireworks, Birthdays, Animals and Transport.
Caterpillar class have Forest School every Thursday morning, it can often get muddy so we ask parents and careers to send in clothes which can get dirty and wellies. PE is on Monday mornings and children have swimming in small groups on alternate Tuesday afternoons. Please contact the class if you would like more information about your child’s swimming sessions.
