- OAA
Our learners who are developing their physical development skills use the Fundamental Movement Skills Programme which we have created as a bespoke approach to supporting our learners to develop firm foundations in their physical development through focusing on the three key areas of Locomotor Skills (travelling from A to B in different ways), Body Management (how we use our bodies to move in different ways) and Manipulative Skills (how we can use different objects with control). Physical development sessions take place in the hall, on the MUGA, in our outdoor areas or within our school facilities like soft play and the climbing wall.
Some of our children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) or complex needs are using the Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP). Opportunities are realistic and tailored to the individual, linking to the children’s individualised targets. It focuses on the abilities and enables athletes to work and showcase motor skills and sporting achievements that are relevant to them.
Through MATP we look to:
• Increase physical activity leading to improvement in motor skills, physical fitness, and functional ability
• Enable more opportunities to perform sports activities
• Develop a more positive self-image through skill acquisition
• Enable greater interaction through sport and physical activity
• Provide more opportunities to develop friendships with other athletes, family members and engage the local community.
