Penguin class is a Junior class of 14 children. The class teacher is Lauren and a team of adults support daily in order to give the children a high ratio of adult support and meet the range of needs we have in the class.
Our year in Penguin class is split into 4 topics where we engage in sensory activities, trips into the community, individual learning and group tasks. The topics for this year are; Back to the Future, Adventurers and Explorers, Superheroes and a whole school topic which will be decided by the children later in the year.
The children in Penguin class access a wide range of personalised interventions that focus on a ‘whole child’ approach to learning. Equal time is spent on developing children’s social and emotional development, physical and sensory needs, cognition and learning as well as their mental health and well-being. During our focused learning sessions, children in Penguin class will work individually with an adult or as part of a small group depending on their needs. We aim to develop children’s independence within their learning and encourage them to complete manageable tasks with decreasing adult support where appropriate.
