Our Pupils as Leaders

Our Pupils as Leaders

At Palatine, pupil voice is extremely important to us and having pupils that support the leadership of the school is one way in which we show this. Each year, all pupils and staff vote to elect a head boy and girl, prefects and a school council which support the leadership team in advocating for the school community. The school council has a representative from each class.

The head boy and girl take on roles such as leading assemblies, helping with some tours, taking part in school self – evaluation for example by surveying if each classroom is safe and welcoming, and serving as role models and pupil leaders across the school. The school council with the support of the pupil leadership team make decisions about resources and facilities as well as supporting pupils making choices about learning.

Examples of actions the pupil leadership team have taken have been running a logo competition, creating a pirate themed reading area, helping pick new playgroup equipment and establishing guidelines for the playground. They have helped write an e-safety charter, discussed school dinners with the catering team and completed environment walks around the school as part of school evaluation.
